The spool is in line with the handle and gears so that the reel can apply more power and torque. More Power– Baitcasters are capable of more power than spinning reels, thanks to their spool layout and design. The line comes directly off the spool straight out through the rod guides meaning less friction and longer casts. Longer Casts – Unlike with ultralight lures – when a spinning reel is a better choice for long casts due to the inertia of the baitcaster spool – for heavier lures, a baitcasting reel will cast further, particularly with a heavy line.Less Line Twist – For the same reason, baitcasters are much better at avoiding line twists unlike a spinning reel, where the line can get twisted as it is wound onto the spool by the bail arm with a bait casting, the line winds straight on, meaning no twist. The spool rotates in line with the handle and gears, so the reel can apply more power and torque without flexing. More Power– Baitcasters can apply more power to a fish when you are winding than a spinning reel because of the way they are constructed. This makes baitcasters much more versatile and effective for punching lures into tight spots around boat docks, trees, and other pockets of water near heavy structures. You can use a slight brake for a marginally overshot cast or stop the line dead if necessary. The ability to thumb the spool enables you to brake an overshot cast and drop the lure short of its original trajectory. More Casting Control – one of the key reasons for using a baitcaster over a spinning reel is the extra casting control that a baitcaster provides.Remember, too, that a lower gear ratio provides more power to haul in a heavy fish, but it is not as good at ripping a fish out from cover before it can turn around and bury you in heavy timber. You can choose the higher or lower ratio depending on which type of fishing you do more off. This ratio allows you to do both the slower retrieves involved in big spinnerbaits and swimbaits and techniques where a faster retrieve is needed, such as fishing plastics and jigs and topwater lures. Most people go with a 6.4:1 ratio as a versatile choice. Typical baitcasting reel gear ratios are 5.3:1, 6.4:1, and 7.1:1. The higher the gear ratio, the more turns of the reels and the more line that is retrieved per turn of the handle. The gear ratio lets you know how many times the spool turns in one revolution of the handle. Conversely, if you target fish that need a lot of grunts to haul them out, you may want to choose a slower retrieve. If the type of fish you target like a fast retrieve, go with a more highly geared reel. Unlike with spinning reels, many baitcasting reel models come with a choice of gear ratios. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Landscape design companiesWith a light output of 2 lumens, these lights aren’t all that bright-you can expect subtle illumination rather than intense beams. Be sure to take advantage of the one-year warranty if you encounter any damage or defects. Made of plastic, these lights are weather-resistant to a degree but not as durable as aluminum or stainless steel options. The lights are sold individually, or in packs of six or 12, at a very affordable price point. Since they don’t require wires or electricity, they are an eco-friendly option for landscape lighting. Because they run on a solar-powered rechargeable battery, you place them anywhere that gets direct sunlight. We love that these lights are very easy to install you simply drive the stake into the ground. These budget-friendly path lights from Mainstays are designed to illuminate dark areas along walkways, pathways, and gardens. Type: Spotlight | Dimensions: 1.6 x 2.5 x 9.25 inches︱ Power Source: Corded-electric︱ Brightness: 1,800 lumens (300 lumens per light) Although we found some reports that the lights stopped working after a short period of time, the manufacturer offers an 18-month replacement service. If you need to illuminate a larger area, you can purchase an extension cable and two extra packs of lights. Once these landscape lights are wired, the total length of these landscape lights is 68.9 feet, with 9.84 feet between each light. (A transformer is required to reduce your home’s 120-volt electrical system to the 12 used by low-voltage lights.) Installation is simple and straightforward, and usually only takes a couple of minutes. Out of all the picks in this roundup, this is the only set that includes a transformer, which is a nice convenience. These lights are compatible with 12-volt or 24-volt electrical systems. Due to their durable aluminum construction and IP65 waterproof rating, these lights can withstand extreme weather without rusting or cracking. The 45-degree beam angle has a head that can be adjusted 270 degrees, making these lights well-suited for illuminating home facades and taller trees. With an average life span of 50,000 hours, they last a lot longer too. Equipped with LED bulbs, these fixtures are much more energy efficient than incandescent options. Our top pick, the Greenclick’s Landscape Lights, comes in a pack of six, with each light producing 300 lumens, an exceptional amount of brightness. The Spruce Home Improvement Review Board. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Garden story review"I just enjoy the process of writing about my backyard with the same kind of rapture that so many of the canonical writers write about far-distant, unpopulated, sublime spaces," she tells me. Rather than tromping far away in solitude in search of some elusive connection with nature, Dungy focuses her attention very close to home. One bonus of turning lawn into garden: no more mowing! "Just one guy – so often a guy – with no evidence of family or anyone to worry about but himself." "The (nearly always white) men and women who claim to be models for how to truly experience the natural world always seemed to do so in solitude," she writes. There is, she writes, "a pattern in nature writing that confounds and annoys me." Dungy mentions writers such as Henry David Thoreau, John Muir and Edward Abbey, as well as Annie Dillard and Mary Oliver. In Soil, Dungy draws a connection between diversifying the plant life in her garden and diversifying the canon of nature writing. (Her solution? Plant much more of everything.) "I was lucky," she says, "in having moved to a town that created a space for that embrace."ĭungy's garden, in its glorious variety, attracts bees, butterflies, and all kinds of birds – goldfinches, pine siskins, nuthatches, chickadees – as well as mountain cottontail rabbits who nibble on her plants. Now, those rules against "non-standard landscaping" have been eliminated: Fort Collins currently has an active initiative to encourage diversification of the landscape. "In those early years," Dungy writes in Soil, "a woman walked around the neighborhood with a ruler, measuring too-tall grass and what she considered unwieldy or weedy vegetation, reporting homeowners to the HOA board for review and possible censure."ĭungy believes building a sustainable world is not a solitary pursuit. The local homeowners' association had a strict yard maintenance code that forbade anything that upset the homogeneous look of the neighborhood. Such a wild, unmanicured garden was verboten in 2013, when Dungy first moved to Fort Collins with her husband and young daughter. So right now we have a very blonde garden!" They stay up "to create winter interest," she says, "but also a lot of the native pollinators will nest or plant their eggs and larvae under and around many of these native plants. She leads me on a tour of what she calls her backyard "prairie project," which she's filled with native grasses like blue grama and little bluestem, and with perennials that will flower later in the spring: penstemon, bee balm, baptisia, echinacea, Lewis flax.ĭungy shows me the tall dried grasses that she's left standing from last season, along with the dead stalks from her milkweed and sunflowers. Because Dungy lives at altitude, her garden is a couple of months behind mine and her plantings still mostly dormant. When we talk, my garden is bursting with bloom, with beds of deep purple columbine, hot pink and lavender phlox, spiky white foamflower. Hot pink moss phlox spills over a stone wall. On a recent morning, we connect by Facetime video for a long-distance, D.C.-to-Colorado, garden-to-garden tour. lawn with all sorts of native perennials, friendly to pollinators. Like her, I've done away with sod and replaced our D.C. It took countless hours of backbreaking work: clearing her garden beds of hundreds of pounds of rock, amending the soil with compost and mulch, and turning the soil with shovel and pitchfork until she was drenched with sweat.ĭungy and I have been on similar garden journeys. In Soil: The Story of a Black Mother's Garden, Dungy describes her years-long project to transform her weed-filled, water-hogging, monochromatic lawn in suburban Fort Collins, Colo., into a pollinator's paradise, packed instead with vibrant, drought-tolerant native plants. And for sure, Dungy can be counted among those who do exactly that. "I love a person who talks kindly to plants," poet Camille Dungy writes in her new contemplative memoir. Camille Dungy leaves the dead stalks of her sunflowers standing for winter interest and the occasional bird visitor. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Flower spine tattoosWho said flower tattoos are not meant for guys? This has no bearing on the machine itself. I have also read the ratings from other people here and it would seem that they have a problem with operating the software and presumably using the computer. It does exactly what I expected and more. I bought the Pazzles about a month after its release. Works well and it also embosses, engraves metal and glass, distresses paper and cuts and even more! Love it! I did a lot of research and decided on the Pazzles Inspiration over the other cutters out there as I can make my own designs and not have to depend on cards that are inserted. I've only had it a few weeks or so but I have used it a lot - so far so good. It can't do things that are *super* intricate or have very thin lines, but overall it exceeded my expectations. Some reviewers commented that it eats paper but I have not experienced this (I've also followed the directions very closely). While it's an investment, the flexibility it offers has given me a lot of creative opportunities with my scrapbooking/cardmaking/etc. 022 thickness chipboard and thin fabric with bonding material, but have been very happy with the results and can confidently say that this machine can handle any kit or collection from. To date, we have only tested 80 lb cardstock, vinyl. Pazzles’ website states that it can cut up to 110 pound paper, stencil plastic, thin magnet material and other not-so-common materials. Overall, the Pazzles Inspiration is a great machine that is capable of cutting a variety of materials. That’s it! The machine automatically sets the origin so that you get consistent performance using Sure Cuts A Lot or the Inspiration Studio software. Loading the mat is as simple as placing your mat into the machine and pressing the load/unload button. Much like the Cricut and Sizzix eclips, the Pazzles Inspiration is very user friendly. When posting the customer reviews below, we made sure to NOT include any reviews that included criticism of the Inspiration Studio since we ourselves don't use it. Sure Cuts A Lot 3 (SCAL) is our choice when it comes to software for the Pazzles Inspiration and had SCAL been included with the machine, we feel that that reviews would be much better. Reading various online reviews, we've come to the conclusion that the majority of bad reviews are a direct reflection of the software that the machine is bundled with (Inspiration Studio software) and has very little to do with the actual machine itself. As an alternative to the Pro version, Sure Cuts A Lot 3 (or later) is compatible with the Pazzles Inspiration and is our preferred (and recommended) cutting software. The Pazzles Inspiration comes bundled with the Inspiration Studio software which you can upgrade to a Pro version that supports SVG import (we have not tested this software). Like any cutting machine, it's necessary to get a feel for the settings depending on what you are cutting and it is important to remember that machine performance is going to change depending on how old or new your blade is. Occasionally we'll get some tearing, but adjusting the pressure usually resolves the problem. The new machine made a successful cut on its first attempt and has made many beautiful cuts since. Pazzles shipped us a new machine and they also paid for return shipping on the original. At first we thought it was user error, but after a few emails and a phone call with Pazzles’ customer support, it was confirmed that the machine needed to be replaced. When we received our first machine, we had some issues with it not cutting properly. Branding and packaging may be cosmetic and irrelevant when the blade hits the mat, but we believe these characteristics are important and shed light on how much Pazzles believes in their product and how much they value their customers. Much like an Apple product, when you receive a brand new Pazzles, it’s obvious that lots of time and energy went into designing the machine as well as the box and product documentation. The Pazzles Inspiration is by far the best looking machine on the market. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Google image search iphone safariThe next step is to enter the image URL () into the bar, which will take you to the images site. Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) telecommunicators are a critical link in the cardiac arrest chain of survival. Local agencies receive this information for review and verification. Users place the AED location on a map, add business and descriptor information and submit photos of the AED in the context of its surroundings. With the free PulsePoint AED app, citizens can help even before a life is in danger by easily identifying AEDs throughout the community. That’s where the PulsePoint AED app and AED Registry can make a big difference. Data on AED locations can often be missing, inaccurate, or simply not detailed enough to make the devices easy to find in an emergency. When CPR-trained individuals receive an alert from PulsePoint Respond, it tells them where a cardiac arrest event is happening and where they can find the nearest AED. But what if someone was already at the scene, applying lifesaving CPR and defibrillation until they arrive? With PulsePoint, the dispatch center immediately alerts CPR-trained individuals about nearby cardiac arrest events through the free PulsePoint Respond mobile app, and also lets them know the location of the closest AEDs. When that life-threatening call comes in emergency responders will be ready. Yet only 11% say they’ve used CPR in an actual emergency-that’s a number we can increase together. adults say they’ve had CPR training, and most would be willing to use CPR or an AED to help save a stranger’s life.
